I’d like to congratulate you on a great website. I googled your services and came up with a great supplier not far from my house …and he was very friendly and had a great price to offer. I think that it’s a great idea and I hope your business expands in future.

Custom Kitchen or Prefabricated Kitchen?

The kitchen is generally considered to be the most complex - and costly - room in the house to renovate. Kitchens will typically require the services of a range of tradespeople, including plumbers, electricians, gas fitters and carpenters. This is one room in the house that cannot easily be renovated by even the most able home handyman - nor is it advised.

There are many reasons to renovate a kitchen - chief among them is a desire to create a room that is functional, maximises space and is suited to the taste of the owner. Another important consideration is that a well-renovated kitchen will almost certainly add value to a property. For many, the state of the kitchen is one of the major determinants in purchasing a home.

There are generally three ways to undertake a kitchen renovation:

1. Custom design and installation

Typically, a kitchen designer is employed to maximise the space and aesthetics of the kitchen in consultation with the client. A custom-designed kitchen is not restricted by standard measurements or materials and it is for this reason that it is often the best option for small or oddly-shaped spaces. A custom designed and installed kitchen will generally be the most expensive renovation option.

2. Prefabricated kitchen and installation

There are many companies that specialise in prefabricated kitchens, including cupboards, draws, surfaces and splashbacks and range in quality and price from budget to high end. Using prefabricated components can save time and money however, you are restricted to standard-sized components and materials. A professional kitchen designer can also be hired to make the best use of space using prefabricated components.

3. Prefabricated kitchen and DIY installation

This is the budget option as installing the prefab kitchen yourself can save costs. However, only a professional should handle the plumbing, electrical and gas components. As with the above option, you may choose to make use of a kitchen designer.
