Before you build a new fence or repair a fence

What people are saying

I was so impressed at how quickly your contractors got back to me

Rebecca, TAS

We have made our initial inquiries through Quotify, and very productive and helpful they have been. This was regarding our search for a burglar alarm system.

James and Mabel, NSW

The response from Quotify was really good, I was impressed with the immediate reply with the 3 pest contacts that were given to me… Once again thanks for your help.

Before you start digging up your yard, there are several key things you should do:

  • Contact your local council. Permits are generally required to build a fence, particularly pool fences. Some councils have height restrictions, setback regulations, style guidelines and banned materials lists. (See: directory of local councils.)

  • Ensure the product meets Australian fencing safety standards. Only use fencing products that have been approved for use in Australia.

  • Verify your property lines. If in doubt of your property lines think about hiring a land surveyor.

  • Discuss your plans with your neighbour. Dividing fences are joint property so you may only have to pay for half the cost of a new fence. (See: Building a neighbour friendly fence)
