What is a cooling off period?

A cooling off period is a period of time in which the buyer of property can withdraw from a contract without penalty. Cooling off periods vary between Australian States and Territories and do not apply in certain circumstances (ie, when you buy at auction). Check with your conveyancer before signing any contract.
