There are things you can do to make the most of a professional cleaning job.

Tell the cleaner about your carpet – to make sure they choose the appropriate cleaning agents and methods. Give them as much information as possible. Tell them about:

• The condition of your carpet.
• The traffic and wear and tear on your carpet.
• If and when it has been professionally cleaned in the past.
• When and how you cleaned it yourself.

Explain stains – point out where the stains are. Tell the cleaner:

• What caused the stain.
• How long the stain has been there.
• Discuss your expectations – some stains are impossible to remove and if you know this, you won’t be disappointed when the job is done.

Protect your furniture – when you put your furniture back, make sure you place protectors under furniture legs until the carpet is completely dry. If the carpet is still wet, colour from timbers such as mahogany and redwood can bleed onto the carpet and metal legs can rust.

Follow instructions – if you chose a good cleaner in the first place, remember they are the expert. Ask for and follow care instructions after cleaning.

For best results – follow these simple suggestions after the cleaning is done:

• Open a window or use a fan to get some air on the carpet and speed up the drying time.
• Don’t walk on the carpet for at least 24 hours - preferably longer – to be sure that the carpet is completely dry.
• Use furniture protectors under legs of furniture, at least until the carpet is absolutely dry.
• When the carpet is dry, vacuum, and then vacuum on a regular basis.
