Get Professional Help to Remove Pet Stains

If you've got pets, you are probably well aware of the mess and odours they can leave around your home.

If you catch your pet in the act of messing on your floors or furniture, you can act quickly to remove the stains and, hopefully, the smell. Some suggested treatments include:

  1. Treating the stained area with an appropriate cleaning solution. Depending on the solution you use, this may need to be left on the carpet for 1-2 days.
  2. Rinse the area.
  3. Vacuum the area to extract the urine and cleaning solution.
  4. Apply a neutralising agent on the affected area to destroy odour causing agents.
  5. Cross your fingers and hope the smell is gone!

If you cant get rid of the odour or stain, spot cleaning may not help at all. The urine may have soaked through your carpet, the backing of the carpet, the underlay and possibly even to the sub-floor. No amount of sponging or blotting at the surface will eliminate the smell. In fact, even steam cleaning may even make it worse.

There are products available that claim to do the job, but if the urine has soaked through, they are unlikely to provide the answer. The smell may seem to be gone, but when the weather gets humid and the carpet gets moist, the odour will return. And if your pet notices the odour - and pets are good at this - they are likely to return to the spot for another go.

Its time to call in the professionals. They will get to the source of the odour. This may mean that they need to pull back the carpet and underlay and treat the floor. As wood and concrete slab floors are porous, the urine just soaks in. These floors will need to be treated and sealed. The affected underlay may need to be cut out and replaced with a new piece, the carpet backing will need to be cleaned and neutralized - all before the cleaned carpet is relaid.

When looking for a professional carpet cleaner to tackle pet odours, make sure you tell then that you want them to remove pet stains and odours. You'll need a specialist.
